What is Your Blog’s Level of Influence ?
If you want to have a big influence on your target market, then publish a blog. Blogs are a great way to quickly and easily publish your thoughts and interests on any relevant topic for your target market. Once you have published your blog you can commence to monitor your blogs level of influence on a regular basis as you promote it on the web.
A new site at Bloginfluence.net measures the level of influence your blog has in the blogosphere by using a simple formula:
Level of Influence = [(blog+posts+web links) + (bloglines subs * 2)] * 1+(Pagerank/10)
where;
blog = number of Technorati blogs linking;
posts = number of Technorati posts linking;
web = number of Yahoo websites linking;
bloglines subs = number of Blogline subscribers;
pagerank = Google’s PageRank.
The greater the blog influence number, the greater your blog’s influence in the blogosphere. There are also useful trend graphs and buzz indexes that you can also track each time you promote your blog. You can also compare your blog to some of the most infuental blogs in the world. For example, the Offical Google Blog had an influnce level of 541,910.4 compared to the Search Engine Watch Blog of 539,960.8.
To put these numbers into some perspective, I checked out this sites influence as of the date this post was published and got a level of 85.8! I noticed that I had no Blogline subscribers so I asked a friend to subscribe to this blog. Whola, I increased the level of influence to a massive 88.4!
Moral of the story; I have a long way to go!
Here are some good uses for this wonderful tool:
- track and monitor the effectiveness of your blog promotion strategies
- compare the influence of your blog to that of your competitors
- find out who is linking to your competitors and ask those sites to link to yours
- use your blog influence level to sell ad space on your blog
